# Domain experts: lawyers, doctors and analysts paid to train AI

Credentialed experts are the top of the AI-training market. Law & legal currently shows a median top rate of $125/hr (typical $100–$150/hr, highest $400/hr, from 48 distinct rates, on a page listing 99 live roles). Live listings, not a recruiting email.

If you already practise law, medicine, finance, a science or a technical trade, the highest listed rates on these platforms are aimed at you. The work is checking whether a model reasoned like someone in your field, writing a reference answer, or building a task a junior model can fail. It is not a career change and it is not a lecture series about AI.

As of 2026-10-25: Law & legal currently shows a median top rate of $125/hr (typical $100–$150/hr, highest $400/hr, from 48 distinct rates, on a page listing 99 live roles). Medicine & health currently shows a median top rate of $100/hr (typical $70–$128/hr, highest $450/hr, from 88 distinct rates, on a page listing 167 live roles). Finance currently shows a median top rate of $100/hr (typical $80–$140/hr, highest $350/hr, from 80 distinct rates, on a page listing 177 live roles). Science & math currently shows a median top rate of $77/hr (typical $55–$115/hr, highest $200/hr, from 74 distinct rates, on a page listing 223 live roles).

## What they actually want

- A credential or a track record you can name: licence, degree, years, employer type.
- The ability to say why an answer is wrong, with a cite, not a vibe.
- Time for an AI interview that will ask you to think out loud about a case in your field.
- No leaking of client, patient or employer material into the task.

## How this differs from the beginner track

You will still do an AI interview. You will still be rejected often. The difference is the work behind the gate: the platform is buying your professional judgment, and the top rates move with that. A generalist applying to a "legal expert" listing to chase the number wastes an evening and a retake window.

> Application note: Put the credential in the first two lines of the CV you upload and in the first twenty seconds of the spoken intro. Parsers and interviewers both look for it there. I tailored a master CV per field rather than sending one generic file to every specialist role.

## Common questions

### Do lawyers really get paid to train AI?

Yes. Law & legal currently shows a median top rate of $125/hr (typical $100–$150/hr, highest $400/hr, from 48 distinct rates, on a page listing 99 live roles). The listing has to ask for legal judgment. A general rating role that happens to mention the word "contract" is not that.

### I have a degree but I do not practise. Should I apply?

Apply when you can explain recent, concrete work in that field. A ten-year-old degree with no practise is a weaker case than a current analyst role, and the interview will show it.

### Can I do this without telling my firm?

Read your partnership or employment agreement. Confidentiality is the real issue, not the existence of a side contract. Never use client documents as examples.

Method: rates are read from each platform's own public job feed. One vote per unique platform+rate band, counted at the top of the band (the most the role says it can pay). Per-task pay is never converted to hourly. No benchmark is published below 5 distinct listed rates. Population: since 2026-08-26 a role must show at least $10/hr (or $10 per task) to be listed, so these figures describe listed roles rather than all AI work; lower-paid rating work exists and is not represented.
