# How to get a job on micro1, step by step

The route onto micro1 in the order you meet it: which countries it hires from, the sign-up behind Apply, the AI interview and any exercise, shorter follow-up interviews, dashboard outcomes, and pay. micro1 currently shows a median top rate of $80/hr (typical $40–$125/hr, highest $400/hr) across 366 live listings.

micro1 is a talent pool. You apply, sit an AI interview, and micro1 matches you to projects. Its own four steps are apply for opportunities, take the AI interview, get onboarded, start earning. This page fills in what each step asks of you. micro1 currently shows a median top rate of $80/hr (typical $40–$125/hr, highest $400/hr) across 366 live listings. Across every platform this site reads, typical top rates of $34–$110/hr (median $70/hr, from 545 distinct listed rates across 25 platforms). The site shows the top of each band because it is the most you can bid. I bid 5 to 10 percent below the top and get accepted, and I would go lower with less experience.

I built this site, and I have worked on Mercor, micro1 and Ethos myself recently, on top of a day job. The parts marked first-hand are mine. I keep these pages current to the best of my ability, and if you meet something different from what is written here, email contact@aipaylist.com or use the Ask Alex box on any page, and I will fix it for everyone who comes after you.

I have worked on micro1 projects before. On 6 September 2026 I went through the route again with a fresh account, to check that this page matches what a new person sees.

## 1. Check whether micro1 hires in your country

micro1 publishes, on its experts page, a list of 20 countries and regions whose residents it cannot hire. If you live in one of them, stop here, because the interview will not change it. micro1 says it cannot hire residents of these 20 countries and regions: Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macau, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and Yemen. Checked 2026-09-05.

## 2. Apply on a listing, then sign up

Every micro1 role is a public post with the hourly rate on it. When you click Apply on this site you land on that post on micro1. The Apply button there opens the sign-up: an email address or a Google account. I recommend a Gmail account for convenience, because the interview and project links arrive by email.

> First-hand: After sign-up the form asks for your name, phone, location and a CV. Have your CV ready as a file before you start, because the form cannot be finished without it.

## 3. The AI interview and any exercise

micro1's AI recruiter, Zara, asks about your experience and the skills the role needs. I would allow about 20 to 30 minutes for the questions, plus roughly another 25 to 30 minutes if the role includes an exercise. Use the estimate on your screen for the full sitting. If it already includes the exercise, do not add that time twice. The interview helps micro1 match your skills to opportunities.

micro1's library publishes a 20 to 40 minute interview range, depending on the skills assessed. My estimate above is practical planning guidance, and exercise requirements vary by role. Certified skills can be reused, so later applications may need only the missing skills or no new interview. My shorter interviews have taken about 7 to 8 minutes of questions. Prepare a 60-second overview of your experience for the opening.

## 4. After the interview: the outcomes you can see

Read the dashboard status to understand the result. Under review means recruiters are evaluating the interview, which micro1 says can take up to 48 hours. Hiring manager reviewing means you performed well and your profile is under human review, which can take up to 30 days. It does not guarantee placement, and micro1 says timelines vary. Did not qualify means this role's criteria were not met, with feedback available by email. Not selected means you performed well but were not chosen for that role. Partial interview is a skill-reuse badge: only missing skills need evaluation. A longer wait alone does not establish that you passed. If selected, follow the onboarding instructions, which may include custom screeners and training before tasks start.

The wait for a manager decision varies a lot. I was accepted within a day once and after more than a month another time. Big projects hire in waves, so the people who applied first fill the first wave.

> First-hand, the three things that matter: Apply fast, because the first wave is the one that fills. Apply to everything that is more or less your expertise, because skills transfer and there is no penalty for many applications. In my experience the interview to get onto a project was harder than the work itself, and I wasted weeks at the start looking for the perfect job and waiting on one response at a time. And decide what you want: if you can wait and want a higher rate, bid higher and accept more rejections. If you want to start soon, bid a little lower, especially if you are applying from outside the US, Western Europe or an English-native country.

## 5. Pay

Rates are on each post, and micro1 edits them after posting. This site re-reads every micro1 post at least daily, and each job page shows the posting's own wording beside the rate. micro1 currently shows a median top rate of $80/hr (typical $40–$125/hr, highest $400/hr) across 366 live listings.

## How the rate is set

This site shows the top of the posted band because it is the most a listing can pay. The rate you agree will usually be lower, and the three platforms set it in three different ways. On Mercor you enter the rate you agree to in your profile settings and it applies to your applications. On micro1 you bid on each application separately. On Ethos the rate is fixed per opportunity and you cannot change it.

> First-hand: On micro1 the bid is yours on every application. 5 to 10 percent below the top of the band works for me. With less experience, or from a country where the competition for the same rate is stiffer, go lower to start and raise it once you have a project behind you.

## The process moves

micro1 changes these steps from time to time, and the pages linked below are where I check. If what you meet differs from this page, tell me, by email at contact@aipaylist.com or in the Ask Alex box, and I will update it so the next person gets the current route.

## Common questions

### How long is the micro1 AI interview?

I would allow about 20 to 30 minutes for questions, plus roughly another 25 to 30 minutes if an exercise is required. Check the full estimate on your screen so you do not count an exercise twice. micro1's library publishes a 20 to 40 minute interview range. Later interviews can reuse certified skills, and my shorter ones have taken about 7 to 8 minutes of questions.

### Does micro1 hire in my country?

Not if you live in one of the 20 countries and regions on its published list. The full list is in step 1 above and on the micro1 platform page.

### What does Did not qualify mean on micro1?

Did not qualify means you did not meet the criteria for that role. You can request detailed feedback by email through the dashboard. Partial interview is a separate skill-reuse badge, not a rejection status. Use the displayed application status to understand the result. A longer wait alone does not establish that you passed.

### What do I need before applying to micro1?

An email address or Google account, then your name, phone, location and a CV as a file. I would allow about 20 to 30 minutes for the interview questions, plus roughly another 25 to 30 minutes if an exercise is required. Follow the full session estimate shown for your role.

### How much does micro1 pay?

micro1 currently shows a median top rate of $80/hr (typical $40–$125/hr, highest $400/hr) across 366 live listings. Those are the tops of posted bands, the most you can bid on each application. I bid 5 to 10 percent below the top. micro1 edits posted rates after posting, so the job page is re-read at least daily.

Method: rates are read from each platform's own public job feed. One vote per unique platform+rate band, counted at the top of the band (the most the role says it can pay). Per-task pay is never converted to hourly. No benchmark is published below 5 distinct listed rates. Population: since 2026-08-26 a role must show at least $10/hr (or $10 per task) to be listed, so these figures describe listed roles rather than all AI work; lower-paid rating work exists and is not represented.
