The role, as Alignerr describes it
Growth & Community Manager
Type: Contract · Location: Remote · Commitment: 40 hours/week
About the Role
We're looking for a Growth & Community Manager to own engagement, retention, and activation for a network of millions of AI contributors. This isn't a traditional community role — it's a growth function. You'll apply product-growth principles (segmentation, lifecycle campaigns, re-engagement, retention metrics) to a contributor base, and manage community channels as one lever in a broader engagement strategy.

The right person thinks in systems, is comfortable working with large and varied user populations, and knows how to move a metric — not just moderate a forum. If you've run lifecycle programs, built contributor or user engagement systems, or applied data-driven growth tactics to a community or marketplace, this role was built for you.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role with meaningful, visible ownership from day one.
What You'll Do
Contributor Engagement & Lifecycle - Build and own lifecycle campaigns (email, SMS, in-app) to activate dormant contributors, re-engage lapsed ones, and retain top performers — each segment gets a distinct strategy and message - Define and maintain contributor segments and personas — translate behavioral signals into actionable buckets and adapt strategies as contributors move between them - Own engagement and retention metrics — build dashboards, set KPIs, identify drop-off points, and run experiments to improve performance at every funnel stage - Build and manage relationships with high-value contributors — maintain direct lines of communication, understand what motivates them, and keep them engaged and well-utilized
Community & Channels - Manage and moderate community channels (Reddit, Discord, and others) — answer questions, resolve issues, run AMAs, and maintain a healthy, accurate community voice - Build feedback loops — surface what contributors are saying across channels and translate it into actionable insights for the broader team - Identify and cultivate community advocates — turn top contributors into visible ambassadors who organically represent the platform
Cross-functional - Collaborate with Recruiting and Growth teams to align community insights with contributor sourcing and project assignment - Track and report on what's working — use data to iterate campaigns, refine segments, and improve engagement over time
Who You Are
- A systems thinker who approaches community and engagement as a growth problem — you build programs and processes, not just one-off interactions - Experienced in lifecycle marketing, user engagement, retention, or contributor/marketplace programs — you've owned a funnel stage and moved a metric - Data-informed — you define your own KPIs, build dashboards, and let data drive your decisions and prioritization - A strong communicator who can engage at scale (1-to-many campaigns) and build genuine relationships with individual high-value contributors (1-to-1) - Highly organized and self-motivated — comfortable owning programs independently in a fast-moving environment - Creative and resourceful — you can design an engagement strategy without a big budget or a large team behind you - Background in consulting, startups, or growth-stage tech companies preferred — you understand how community serves the business, not just itself
Nice to Have
- Experience with lifecycle or CRM platforms and email marketing - Familiarity with community platforms: Discord, Reddit, Slack - Background in referral programs or re-engagement campaign design - Comfort with data and analytics — able to build your own dashboards and have informed conversations with engineers - Exposure to marketplace, gig economy, or contributor-side platform dynamics - Interest in AI and the model training space
Why Join Us
- High-impact, high-ownership role — you'll shape how millions of AI contributors engage with the platform - Fully remote and flexible — work when and where you do your best thinking - Freelance autonomy with meaningful, visible work that directly drives business results - Collaborate with a sharp, mission-driven team operating at the frontier of AI development - Build something from the ground up — the systems and programs you create will define this function
