The role, as Alignerr describes it
Backend Rust Engineer (AI Training)
About the Role
What if your deep expertise in Rust — memory safety, ownership models, zero-cost abstractions — could directly shape how AI understands and generates systems-level code for developers worldwide?
We're looking for experienced Rust engineers to review, evaluate, and challenge AI-generated code at the systems level. You'll be on the front lines of AI development, applying your hard-won expertise to help AI models reason better about one of the most demanding programming languages in use today.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed to fit around your existing commitments — whether you're a full-time engineer looking for meaningful side work or a seasoned contractor seeking your next high-impact engagement.

What You'll Do
* Review AI-generated Rust code for correctness, memory safety, and idiomatic ownership patterns * Design challenging systems-level problems to probe the limits of AI understanding in low-level programming * Evaluate concurrent programming logic and identify potential race conditions, deadlocks, or unsafe patterns in AI-produced code * Assess performance optimization decisions and validate that AI responses reflect sound systems engineering judgment * Ensure type-safety, scientific rigor, and production-quality standards across all evaluation tasks * Provide clear, structured feedback that helps improve how AI models reason about Rust and systems programming
Who You Are
* 5+ years of professional experience writing production Rust with a strong focus on memory safety and concurrency * Deep understanding of Rust's ownership model, lifetimes, traits, and async patterns * Strong background in systems programming — you think in terms of performance, resource constraints, and low-level behavior * Able to articulate complex technical concepts clearly in written English * Naturally rigorous — you catch edge cases others miss and hold code to a high standard * Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field
Nice to Have
* Experience with distributed systems architecture or developer tooling * Familiarity with unsafe Rust, FFI, or embedded/systems targets * Background in performance profiling, benchmarking, or compiler internals * Prior experience with AI evaluation, code review tooling, or technical writing
Why Join Us
* Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs * Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you * Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, well-scoped technical work * Make a direct, measurable impact on how AI models understand and generate Rust code * Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
