The role, as Alignerr describes it

Math Expert or Specialist (AI Training)

About the Role

What if your years of rigorous mathematical training could directly shape how AI reasons through the world's hardest problems? We're looking for Math Experts to help push the boundaries of what AI can do — designing challenging problems, stress-testing AI reasoning, and helping build the benchmarks that define the frontier of machine intelligence.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for mathematicians who want to do meaningful, intellectually stimulating work on their own schedule. No prior AI experience required — just deep mathematical expertise and a sharp analytical mind.

- Organization: Alignerr - Type: Hourly Contract - Location: Remote - Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

Read the rest of the description (7 more paragraphs)

* Design advanced, original math problems that rigorously test AI performance across areas like multi-step reasoning, abstraction, and symbolic manipulation * Develop clear, logically rigorous step-by-step solutions that serve as gold-standard references * Evaluate AI-generated outputs for mathematical accuracy, depth of reasoning, and solution quality * Collaborate with researchers to develop and refine benchmarks spanning undergraduate through PhD-level mathematics * Provide structured, expert feedback that directly informs how leading AI models are trained

Who You Are

* Currently pursuing or holding a PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field * Exceptionally strong mathematical reasoning skills across advanced domains * Able to communicate complex ideas with precision and clarity in writing * Comfortable providing structured, critical feedback on problem-solving approaches * Self-motivated and reliable when working independently and asynchronously * No prior AI or machine learning experience required

Nice to Have

* Familiarity with data annotation, data quality workflows, or evaluation systems * Experience designing coursework, competitions, or assessments in mathematics * Exposure to formal proof writing or mathematical logic * Interest in how AI systems reason about quantitative and abstract problems

Why Join Us

* Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams * Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you * Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually engaging work * Gain direct exposure to how frontier large language models are trained and evaluated * Contribute to work that shapes the mathematical reasoning capabilities of AI at a global scale * Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
