Physical Sciences Expert - AI Training
$300/task
About this role, in Braintrust's words
Help evaluate how AI systems solve real scientific problems. In this short-term project, you will turn physics, chemistry, materials science or related research workflows into challenging, reproducible tasks that an AI agent must complete in a Linux terminal.
What you'll do
- Design multi-step tasks involving scientific modeling, simulations, quantitative analysis or computational experiments.
- Build working solutions and self-contained environments, prepare scientific inputs, and create automated tests for accurate and reproducible results.
- Debug calculations and dependencies, and document units, assumptions, numerical tolerances and scientific limitations.

• Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, Julia, Bash or another scientific programming language, plus experience working in Linux or terminal environments.
• Experience independently creating and validating scientific workflows, with an understanding of numerical precision, physical constraints and reproducibility.
• Benchmark design, research software, publications and open-source contributions are welcome but not required.
Project details
• Expected project length: five weeks.
• Availability: 40 hours per week, including four hours of overlap with Pacific working hours each day.

What the platform publishes in general. These are not extra terms confirmed for this particular role.
- Getting paid
- Through a processor such as Stripe or Wise. On hourly contracts you invoice through Braintrust and payment starts within 30 days, or later if the client has not paid. Its AI training page says gig tasks are paid weekly. usebraintrust.com/site-service-fees-terms, usebraintrust.com/ai-training
- Before your first paid task
- A profile and a short AI interview, usually under an hour, then ID verification and skills validation. Certification takes 1 to 2 days, and matching starts after it. usebraintrust.com/for-talent
- How much work
- No guaranteed minimum or regular pay. Its terms say Braintrust does not introduce talent to clients or find projects for them. usebraintrust.com/talent-terms, usebraintrust.com/terms
- Contract
- Independent contractor. Each project is a contract directly between you and the client, under terms with Freelance Labs, Inc. usebraintrust.com/talent-terms, usebraintrust.com/terms
