How to get a job on Mercor, step by step

Mercor is an expert network. You apply to public listings, and Mercor's matching also sends offers to people whose interviews and assessments already fit a role. This page is the route in, step by step, from Mercor's own documentation for talent, read on 6 September 2026, and from my own contracts there. Mercor currently advertises a median top rate of $90/hr (typical $60–$140/hr, highest $250/hr) across 374 live listings.

1. Pick a listing and apply
Sign in, open Explore, and use the filters. Job fit ranks listings that match your profile, Newest shows recent postings, Most pay sorts by rate. On this site the same listings are sorted best paid first, with the rate visible before you click, or by newest, which is the one to use when your goal is to apply as early as possible, because early applicants have the better chance of being accepted.
Mercor's documentation describes an automated compatibility check that runs when you apply, with three outcomes: allowed, a compatibility warning that still lets you apply, or blocked, which means you cannot submit for that listing. A block is about that listing's criteria, not a verdict on you, and the fix Mercor suggests is a fuller profile. I have not met the check myself, most likely because my profile fit the listings I tried, so treat it as Mercor's description rather than mine.
2. Create the account and finish the profile
The account is passwordless. Enter your email, open the verification link, or continue with Google. The same happens at every sign-in.
The profile needs a CV as a PDF, which Mercor parses to pre-fill roles, skills and education, plus your full name, email, phone, city, country and a LinkedIn URL or a note that you have none. Fix what the parser missed and add short role summaries with measurable results, because a complete profile is what the matching reads.
3. The AI interview, about 20 minutes
Mercor's AI interviewer asks role-specific questions, records a transcript and scores it for the listing. Mercor says most interviews take about 20 minutes, some shorter or longer. My first one ran longer than that. Each unique interview is done once. If another application needs the same interview, your existing result is reused, and you can retake an interview up to three times across all applications that use it.
4. Assessments
Assessments are structured, timed tasks that Mercor uses alongside interviews, with time limits and autosave, some as forms and some interview-style. Mercor now treats them as an entry point in their own right rather than a step inside one application. Many roles rely on the same assessment, so completing one can qualify you for several listings. They live on one Assessments page, with recommended ones for your profile. Mercor states that assessment data is not sold or shared for commercial purposes.
5. The wait, and instant offers
Mercor's own answer on timing is 2 to 4 weeks to hear whether you moved to the next stage. In that window, if your verified interview, assessments, skills and availability match a listing, a hiring team can send an Instant Offer without an application from you. It arrives by email, and Mercor says you can start straight away.
6. Work trial, offer, onboarding
Some roles use a paid work trial before an offer. Mercor allows one trial per person, and accepting one trial cancels any others. The offer itself appears in the Offers tab. Review the header (company, role, contract type), sign, set up your payment method, and complete a background check if the role needs one. Mercor says onboarding instructions follow within 7 days and appear in the Contracts tab.
7. Getting paid
The Earnings tab shows contract wages, bonuses, work trials and referrals with their payment status. Mercor pays through Stripe or Wise, and without one of them set up nothing can be paid.
How the rate is set
This site shows the top of the advertised band because it is the most a listing can pay. The rate you agree will usually be lower, and the three platforms set it in three different ways. On Mercor you enter the rate you agree to in your profile settings and it applies to your applications. On micro1 you bid on each application separately. On Ethos the rate is fixed per opportunity and you cannot change it.

Common questions
- How long is the Mercor AI interview?
- About 20 minutes by Mercor's own support page, with some shorter or longer. My first one ran longer. It asks role-specific questions and scores a transcript for the listing, and after enough interviews most of my applications go through with no interview at all.
- Can I retake the Mercor interview?
- Yes, up to three times across all applications that use that interview. A result is reused for later applications that need the same interview.
- How long until Mercor replies?
- Mercor says 2 to 4 weeks to hear whether you moved to the next stage. In my experience silence past about 4 weeks means the application was rejected. An instant offer can arrive sooner if your interview and assessments already fit a role.
- What does application blocked mean on Mercor?
- By Mercor's own description, its compatibility check found your profile did not meet that listing's criteria. It applies to that listing only, and a fuller profile is the fix Mercor suggests.
- Do I need a CV for Mercor?
- Yes, as a PDF. Mercor parses it to pre-fill your profile, and you confirm name, email, phone, city, country and LinkedIn.
- How much does Mercor pay?

Those are the tops of advertised bands, read from Mercor's own listings, because the top is the most a listing can pay. The rate you agree is set in your Mercor profile settings and will usually be lower. I keep mine a little below the top.
