How to get a job on micro1, step by step

micro1 is a talent pool. You apply, sit an AI interview, and micro1 matches you to projects. Its own four steps are apply for opportunities, take the AI interview, get onboarded, start earning. This page fills in what each step asks of you. micro1 currently advertises a median top rate of $80/hr (typical $45–$120/hr, highest $400/hr) across 337 live listings. Across every platform this site reads, typical advertised top rates of $55–$120/hr (median $85/hr, from 449 distinct advertised rates across 8 platforms). The site shows the top of each band because it is the most you can bid. I bid 5 to 10 percent below the top and get accepted, and I would go lower with less experience.
I built this site, and I have worked on Mercor, micro1 and Ethos myself recently, on top of a day job. The parts marked first-hand are mine. I have worked on micro1 projects before. On 6 September 2026 I went through the route again with a fresh account, to check that this page matches what a new person sees.
1. Check whether micro1 hires in your country
micro1 publishes, on its experts page, a list of 20 countries and regions whose residents it cannot hire. If you live in one of them, stop here, because the interview will not change it. micro1 says it cannot hire residents of these 20 countries and regions: Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macao, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and Yemen. 2. Apply on a listing, then sign up
Every micro1 role is a public post with the hourly rate on it. When you click Apply on this site you land on that post on micro1. The Apply button there opens the sign-up: an email address or a Google account. I recommend a Gmail account for convenience, because the interview and project links arrive by email.
3. The first AI interview, about an hour, then short ones
micro1's AI recruiter, Zara, interviews you before any match. The first interview took me about an hour: a brief overview of my experience first, then questions on skills. That first interview is what matches you to jobs and shows you the best-matching ones.
Applying to a job after that can add a shorter interview, specific to the skills that job needs on top of the general one. It used to be that every new job meant a full interview again, even on the same skills. That has improved a lot. Skills already covered are accepted automatically, so a job-specific interview only covers what is new, and mine now take about 7 to 8 minutes. The one part that repeats every time is Zara asking for a brief overview of your experience, so learn a 60-second version and it stops being annoying.
4. After the interview: the outcomes you can see
Two things can happen, and the timing tells you which. If the AI screens you out, it is quick, usually within a day. The application then shows Partial interview and Did not qualify, and that is the whole verdict. If it takes longer, the AI part is passed and a micro1 hiring manager is reviewing, sometimes waiting on the client. From there the application ends either as Not selected, or as an offer you accept and sign electronically in onboarding, where you may pass custom screeners and trainings before the tasks start.
The wait for a manager decision varies a lot. I was accepted within a day once and after more than a month another time. Big projects hire in waves, so the people who applied first fill the first wave.
5. Pay
Rates are on each post, and micro1 edits them after posting. This site re-reads every micro1 post at least daily, and each job page shows the posting's own wording beside the rate. micro1 currently advertises a median top rate of $80/hr (typical $45–$120/hr, highest $400/hr) across 337 live listings.
How the rate is set
This site shows the top of the advertised band because it is the most a listing can pay. The rate you agree will usually be lower, and the three platforms set it in three different ways. On Mercor you enter the rate you agree to in your profile settings and it applies to your applications. On micro1 you bid on each application separately. On Ethos the rate is fixed per opportunity and you cannot change it.

Common questions
- How long is the micro1 AI interview?
- The first one took me about an hour. Later job-specific interviews only cover skills not already interviewed, and mine now take about 7 to 8 minutes.
- Does micro1 hire in my country?
- Not if you live in one of the 20 countries and regions on its published list. The full list is in step 1 above and on the micro1 platform page.
- What does Did not qualify mean on micro1?
- The AI interview screened the application out. It shows as Partial interview and Did not qualify, usually within a day. A longer wait means the AI part passed and a micro1 hiring manager is reviewing.
- What do I need before applying to micro1?
- An email address or Google account, then your name, phone, location and a CV as a file. Then about an hour for the first AI interview.
