How to get a job on Outlier, step by step
By Alex. First published 2026-10-18. Sources checked 2026-10-18.
Outlier has general onboarding and a separate qualification stage for a project. Plan for both before treating an application as a route to immediate paid work.
This guide follows Outlier's published instructions, checked on 18 October 2026. It is a documentation-based walkthrough.
1. Choose an opportunity you qualify for
The FAQ currently specifies at least an associate degree. Some projects ask for higher qualifications. Read the individual role for its location, expertise and other requirements.

2. Prepare your application details
Have a current resume, LinkedIn profile, valid ID and a mobile phone from your country of residence. Check that your experience explains why you fit the role you selected.
3. Complete general onboarding
Outlier estimates 30 to 90 minutes for account setup, expertise selection, skill screening and identity verification together. This is an estimate for general onboarding, not one interview.
4. Follow the project's qualification steps
Project onboarding comes afterward and varies. It can include guidelines and assessment tasks. Read the project's instructions for its time commitment and whether preparation or assessments are paid.
5. Confirm the rate before tasking
Outlier says the tasking rate is shown before starting a project. Payments are processed weekly on Tuesdays through PayPal, Airtm or ACH. Check which option your account offers.
Track completed paid tasks separately from applications and qualifications. An available profile, a project invitation and money received are different milestones.
