How to get a job on DataAnnotation, step by step

By Alex. First published 2026-10-18. Sources checked 2026-10-18.

Before opening a DataAnnotation assessment, choose the track that fits your experience and leave enough uninterrupted time. The Starter Assessment has one attempt.

This guide follows DataAnnotation's published instructions, checked on 18 October 2026. It is a documentation-based walkthrough.

1. Check the requirements for your track

Generalist work asks for strong writing and reasoning, plus a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Coding, language and specialist tracks have their own requirements. Check location eligibility on the current application before investing time.

2. Leave room for the assessment

DataAnnotation estimates about an hour for most Starter Assessments and one to two hours for specialist assessments. The Starter Assessment cannot be retaken. Read the instructions, work carefully and review before submitting.

3. Prepare for identity verification

When your account prompts you, verification uses Persona. Have a physical, unexpired government photo ID and a working camera ready. Verification is required to participate.

4. Check for a decision without guessing from silence

The FAQ describes approval within a few days, while also saying contact depends on review and matching work. That estimate is not a deadline that turns silence into rejection.

5. Read the project terms before starting

Check the actual task rate, instructions and payment terms in your account. Record the time you spent applying separately from paid work. A posted rate alone cannot tell you how much work you will receive.
