The role, as Handshake AI describes it

Opportunity Overview

Handshake is looking for experienced Embedded Systems and RF Engineers to support AI research through flexible, part-time contract work. This is not a traditional engineering role—you’ll draw on your hands-on industry experience in embedded systems, firmware, digital signal processing, RF, or wireless communications to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI reason like a practicing embedded or RF engineer.

This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity that you can take on alongside your current role.

What You’ll Do

• Create expert-level embedded systems, DSP, and RF engineering problems and scenarios grounded in real design, development, testing, debugging, and deployment workflows

Read the rest of the description (36 more paragraphs)

• Review AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, practical feasibility, and alignment with industry standards and engineering practice

• Evaluate designs, calculations, assumptions, methodologies, and recommendations involving embedded firmware, real-time systems, signal processing, RF systems, wireless communications, and related topics

• Assess AI-generated technical work across areas such as firmware architecture, hardware/software integration, signal analysis, RF design, communications systems, and embedded debugging

• Provide clear, structured written feedback to help improve AI model performance

• Complete tasks at your own pace, with no set schedule or minimum-hour requirement

Project Details

• Work remotely and asynchronously from wherever you are.

• Set your own schedule with no minimum time requirement.

• Project placement depends on current availability. If this opportunity is full, additional projects will become available soon.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates meet all three of the following:

• Industry experience — 2+ years of hands-on embedded systems, DSP, RF, or related engineering experience in industry

• Degree — MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. A BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering also qualifies when paired with strong industry experience

• Embedded and RF expertise — demonstrated depth in one or more of the following areas:

• Embedded firmware and software development

• Real-time and safety-critical systems

• Digital signal processing and signal analysis

• RF circuit and system design

• Antenna design and electromagnetic systems

• Wireless communications and communication protocols

• Hardware/software integration

• Embedded hardware design, testing, and debugging

Candidates who meet two of the three criteria above are also encouraged to apply.

Additional Qualifications

These are not required but will strengthen your application:

• Proficiency with engineering and development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, SPICE, LTspice, Altium, KiCad, GNU Radio, or comparable environments

• Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, SoCs, or other embedded computing platforms

• Experience with RF test and measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, or software-defined radios

• Experience with wireless standards and technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular, GNSS, LoRa, or other RF communication systems

• Experience with PCB design, signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC, or hardware validation

• Experience at an embedded systems, semiconductor, telecommunications, aerospace, defense, automotive, consumer electronics, or engineering technology company

Required for All Applicants

• Based in the United States

• Strong written communication and attention to detail

• Ability to explain complex embedded systems, DSP, and RF concepts clearly

• Ability to work independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
